Seven artisanal miners including children were reported dead by a landslide on June 9 at a gold mining site in Belita, east region, Cameroun. Hundreds of artisanal miners are digging regularly for gold in abandoned mines in the region. The landslide occurred in a mine left by a mining company. companies fail to close holes after extracting gold. From 2013, more than 157 casualties were caused by these types of landslides. The whole mine subsides and sometimes, the holes are filled with water drowning the miners.
